Does it cost extra?

No. Each tool call is one API request, counted against your plan's limits like any other. See the plans.

Which assistants can connect?

Any that connects to a remote MCP server over HTTP and lets you set an Authorization header: Claude Code, Claude's web and desktop apps, Cursor, VS Code and more. Assistants that only offer OAuth sign-in, such as ChatGPT, cannot connect yet.

Where does the data go?

To the assistant you connect, under your account with its provider. Check that provider's settings for how it handles what you share with it.
